Computer Village which has been in existence for over 30 years is a popular market for computers and electronics in Lagos state, Nigeria,the biggest ICT hub in Africa, and while it’s a hub for technological innovation, it comprises of people from all over the world who are engaged in doing one business or the other.
Since the beginning of Computer Village, Igbo people, also known as Ndi-Igbo, as an ethnic group living chiefly in southeastern Nigeria have been part of the successful story of Computer Village with the big, medium and small players of Igbo extraction playing a daily significant role in the development and progress of Computer Village, Ikeja.
Ndi-Igbo have a rich cultural heritage and a complex history that spans thousands of years (1).
The Igbo people have a long history of democratic governance, with a traditional system of government that was based on a quasi-democratic republican system. This system guaranteed citizens equality and was characterized by a council of elders that governed communities in accordance with Igbo traditions.
In modern times, Ndi-Igbo have continued to play an important role in Nigerian politics and governance.
Ndi- Igbo in Computer Village which membership comprises of people of Igbo extraction from Abia, Anambra, Delta, Ebonyi, Enugu, Imo and Rivers States are peace loving people adding value to Lagos State and Nigeria by extension.
Ndi-Igbo in Computer Village is a child of necessity born out of the refusal of the former interim chairman of the Igbos in Computer Village refusal to conduct a democratic election after 15 years in the saddle as the chairmen despite the series of peace meeting called by the elders council for him to democratize the Igbo Union and successfully transit power to another leader.
It was after the dissolution of the former interim executive of the Igbos in Computer Village on 5th July,2024 by the general Assembly led by the Elders council constituted an interim committee with a four (4) and half month mandate to conduct a the first ever historic election to elect Igbo leaders for the first time in 15 years that gave birth to the peaceful, fair and credible election in December,2024.
